Find out more about us
You have probably been wondering what I am all about, so here is a little information about me.
I have been an avid hike for the past 6 yrs and can't wait to get back on the trail after coming back from a hike.
As a recreational hiker, through my years of hiking I have gained a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge of tips and secrets of how to make the best hiking experience possible.
I first started out as many new hikers do. That is with a heavy pack, out of shape and a big appetite, and very little knowledge of the proper way to make a successful hike. Although I loved it, I was worn out after a few days. My first major excursion was trail 161 in the Gila Wilderness in NM. Climbing almost 1500 ft. in 3 miles with 55lbs. on my back, on a trail rated "difficult", was not a good experience. Along with that I didn't carry enough water and got too close to dehydration for comfort.
Although I live in southwestern MI my favorite area to hike is in the deserts and mountains of AZ and NM. The Gila Wilderness is my favorite spot to go and I plan on moving out west when I retire.
Through the years I have learned a lot about lightweight backpacking, survival and navigation. Although there is a ton of information on the web about these subjects I are tired of having to go to various websites to get the information that I need to make a safe hike.
Our goal with this site is to provide you with the information that you need to ensure your safety. I have a couple of major projects coming up for this site that you will want to watch for.
The first is a complete survival section that will give you valuable knowledge about wilderness survival. There are a lot of websites that post the old army survival manual as a survival guide. Although this manual has a ton of information in it, it also has a lot of things missing. Our goal is to provide those things and eliminate the things that don't pertain to everyday hikers.
